About the Author
Patricia Josephine is a writer of Urban Fantasy and Sci-Fi Romance books. She actually never set out to become a writer, and in fact, she was more interested in art and band in high school and college. Her dreams were of becoming an artist like Picasso. On a whim, she wrote down a story bouncing in her head for fun. That was the start of her writing journey, and she hasn't regretted a moment. When she's not writing, she's watching Doctor Who or reading about serial killers. She's an avid knitter. One can never have too much yarn. She writes Young Adult Paranormal, Science Fiction, and Fantasy under the name Patricia Lynne.

Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo, and has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow.

Excerpt

DEATH DIDN’T COME TODAY. Night had fallen, and the lure of sleep tugged on me. I dragged myself to my feet and dumped the now cold tea.

Maybe tomorrow, I told myself as I brushed my teeth.

I ignored the little voice that whispered it wasn’t normal to wish for Death. I understood that, but normal was boring. Normal didn’t take you on adventures around the world.

Normal didn’t introduce you to Death.

I remembered the first time we met. It had been an autumn day in New Zealand. I was waiting for the tour to start. I was finally seeing where The Hobbit had been filmed. My excitement was palatable. An older man collapsed and the medics were called. Their attempts to revive him were fruitless. That was when I saw Death.

No one else seemed aware of him. I watched him weave through the crowd. He was reaching for the body when our eyes met. Confusion flitted across his pale face. Later that night, I saw him again. He didn’t understand why I saw him. It wasn’t my time.

When, I asked.

He shrugged. One day. Then he was gone. I have been waiting for him ever since.

FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY (#IWSG May 2020)

Today is the five-year anniversary of the release of my first novel, Ten Thousand Days. (It's also my 40th birthday, but that's neither here nor there).

We live in a strange world right now (apologies for the weirdness of my post last month). We need to celebrate every little thing we can. So, in honour of my book's birthday, I'm giving it away.

Specifically, I'm giving away THREE honest-to-goodness paperback copies of Ten Thousand Days. (I know, who reads dead tree books anymore, right?) But I'm doing it, and, if the postal service in your area is still operating, you will eventually get it, too!

The first copy is going to a lucky follower of my Facebook page. I wrote about it last week, but here's the short version: To have a chance to win a copy, all you have to do is 1) Like my Facebook Page, and 2) Leave a comment on the post pinned to the top of the page. That's it! Simple, right?

For the second copy, I'm going to do one of those raffle-copter thingies, which I'm sure you've seen before:

a Rafflecopter giveaway Just enter the list above for another chance to win! And the more boxes you complete, the more chances you have to win. You can Tweet about the book every day to maximize your chances.

For the third copy, I'm finally starting a mailing list. If you sign-up for the mailing list, you'll be entered for a chance to win a paperback copy as well. I guarantee you I won't be using this list to send you spam, or random stories or posts (I use this blog and Facebook for that). The main purpose of the mailing list will be to alert you, dear reader of when any new books or stories are coming out.

Which brings me to, I suppose, my main point today. This day is not just about celebrating past books, but about looking forward to new ones. Barring further tragedies, I should have a new book out very soon. Maybe even two this year.

Am I insecure about talking about new books? Hells yes. It seems like every time I start getting excited about something, especially a new book, it just gets delayed or falls apart altogether. I thought I was going to publish Hell Comes to Hogtown nearly a year before it actually came out. A year or so ago I said I was working on a sequel for Hogtown, and then I never finished it. Talking about a book before it's ready seems to be the Touch of Death for me. So why am I doing it now?

Maybe I'm just a sucker for punishment.

Maybe because I'm tired of just talking about old books. Maybe I'm tired of being negative all the time and focusing on failures. Maybe I'm jealous of all the new books I see other writers putting out. I just want to be excited and look forward to something, you know? Trust me, I don't get to do that very often.

So here's to old books and new, here's to turning 40. The world's going to shit anyway, might as well make the most of it.

Hugs & kisses,
-CDGK

FREE BOOK GIVEAWAY!

May is the 5th anniversary of the release of my first book, TEN THOUSAND DAYS. To celebrate, I'm giving away a free paperback copy! Yes, not just a digital copy, which is also cool, but a dead tree version you can love and cherish and put on your shelf and never read!

All you have to do is "LIKE" my Facebook Page and LEAVE A COMMENT on the post pinned to the top of the page. That's it!

Please enjoy my quarantine hair.

Please note this is the REVISED and EXPANDED edition that came out in 2017. It's 30,000 words longer and MUCH better edited (thanks, Amy!) So even if you read TEN THOUSAND DAYS when it first came out, you may still want to check out the authoritative "author's cut."

Contest is open to readers in Canada, the USA and Europe, and runs until May 10th, 2020. A winner will be chosen randomly on May 11th, 2020.

I've had these glasses for over five years, I think it's time for a new pair.

I'm actually hoping to give away more than one copy, so watch out for more chances to win in the coming weeks!

All you have to do to win is LIKE MY FACEBOOK PAGE and comment on the top post! That's it!

In case my face isn't enough to sway you, here's the blurb:

They say love hurts and time heals all wounds.
Sometimes the reverse is true.
Isaac was very good at wasting time. Video games, a mindless job, no responsibilities - he had a simple life and few wants. Despite being hopelessly average, unassuming and kind of useless, he had somehow married the most beautiful, wonderful woman in the world.
He had no idea how good he had it - until it was all taken away.
Time does not like being wasted. It is mercurial, inexorable and carries a wicked grudge. And sometimes, just sometimes, it enjoys playing games with people's lives. To be perfectly honest, Time is a bit of a jerk.
Isaac had never learned to appreciate what little time he had, and now he must travel to the ends of the universe and face unspeakable evils in a cat-and-mouse game with Time itself for the slim chance to win back a few fleeting seconds of happiness. The price of failure? Only the end of all existence.
Ten Thousand Days is a fairy tale set in the modern day, a fantastic journey of desperate love and horror with a twisted sense of humour. It's a story of exactly how far a young man will go for love...
Remember, just LIKE MY FACEBOOK PAGE and comment on the top post for your chance to win. By liking my Facebook page, you also get my semi-regular tid-bits of important Canadian history, like this one:

BEST. NIGHT. EVER. Blog Tour!

Friend of the blog Stephanie Faris has a brand-new book out this month, co-written by a host of talented writers. It sounds like a really fun premise and story so I was thrilled to help her get the word out. Details are below, as well as your chance to win an autographed copy!

THE BOOK!

Love Actually meets Adventures in Babysitting in this hilarious novel written by seven authors about seven classmates who are preparing for a crazy night at their middle school dance.

Lynnfield Middle School is prepped and ready for a dance to remember, including an awesome performance from Heart Grenade, the all-girl band who recently won a Battle of the Bands contest. Seven classmates—Carmen, Genevieve, Tess, Ryan, Ellie, Ashlyn, and Jade—intend to make the most of the night…or at least the five of them who are able to attend do. The other two would sacrifice almost anything to be there.

One thing’s for sure—this entire crew is in for one epic night! Gail Nall, Dee Romito, Rachele Alpine, Ronni Arno, Alison Cherry, Stephanie Faris, and Jen Malone have created a charming, hilarious, and relatable novel that’s perfect for anyone who can’t wait to dance the night away.

THE LINKS!

THE WRITERS!

One of Rachele Alpine’s first jobs was at a library, but it didn’t last long, because all she did was hide in the third-floor stacks and read. Now she’s a little more careful about when and where she indulges her reading habit. Rachele is a high school English teacher by day, a wife and mother by night, and a writer during any time she can find in between.  She lives in Cleveland, Ohio where she writes middle grade and young adult novels. Visit her at RacheleAlpine.com.

Ronni Arno Blaisdell is the author of Ruby Reinvented. She has written for several magazines, blogs, and websites. In a previous life she worked as a publicist in Hollywood, and eventually built a home in Maine. She is a keen SCBWI member and contributor to the KidLiterati.com blog. Visit her online at ronniarno.com.

Alison Cherry is the author of the YA novels Red, For Real and Look Both Ways, and the middle grade novels Willows vs. Wolverines and The Classy Crooks Club. She is a professional photographer and spent many years working as a lighting designer for theater, dance, and opera productions. This whole “writing books” thing is just a cover for the international crime ring she runs out of her Brooklyn apartment. (Shhh, don’t tell.) Visit her online at AlisonCherryBooks.com.

Stephanie Faris knew she wanted to be an author from a very young age. In fact, her mother often told her to stop reading so much and go outside and play with the other kids. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University she somehow found herself working in information technology. But she never stopped writing. When she isn’t crafting fiction, Stephanie is indulging her gadget geek side by writing for online technology sites. Her work is regularly featured on the small business blogs for Intuit and Go Payment and she is a featured columnist for SmallBizTechnology.com. She lives in Nashville with her husband. Visit her online at StephanieFaris.com.

Jen Malone is a former Hollywood publicist who once spent a year traveling the world solo, met her husband on the highway (literally), and went into labor with her identical twins while on a rock star’s tour bus. These days she saves the drama for her books. Jen is also the author of the middle grade novels At Your Service and The Art of the Swap, coauthor of the You’re Invited series, and wrote the YA novels Map to the Stars and Wanderlost. You can visit her online at JenMaloneWrites.com.

Gail Nall lives in Louisville, Kentucky, with her family and more cats than necessary. She once drove a Zamboni, has camped in the snow in June, and almost got trampled in Paris. Gail is the author of the middle grade novel Breaking the Ice, the coauthor of You’re Invited and You’re Invited Too, and the author of the young adult novel Exit Stage Left. You can find her online at GailNall.com and on Twitter as @GaileCN. Visit her online at GailNall.com.

Dee Romito lives in her hometown of Buffalo, New York, where she and her family are steadily checking items off their own bucket list of adventures. You’re likely to find her at the local ice cream shop, writing at a café, or curled up on the couch with her cats. And while she does her best to be a grown-up most of the time, giggling with her BFFs is still one of her all-time favorite things. To join the fun and create your own bucket list, visit TheBFFBucketList.com.

Trick or Treat for Books (100th Post!)

Happy All-Hallow's-Eve-Eve-Eve-Eve-Eve-Eve!

Ah, Samhain is in the air. Smells like cheap kid's make-up, candy and rotting pumpkins. Well, that and winter. It definitely smells like Winter is Coming, but that's a story for another day.

I love Halloween. As a kid I just liked dressing up, but as I've gotten older I've been drawn more and more into the spectacle and pageantry of it. I'm at an unfortunate life stage however where my kids are really young so I can't go too overboard with the decorations. The first year we had our house and my oldest was an infant, the neighbourhood kids were terrified to come up onto my front porch. Last year, my son started asking why there were severed limbs all over the yard. This year I'm afraid he's old enough that he won't ask, he'll just run up to his room crying and send me his future therapy bills..

So I'm going to have to tone it down for a few years, I get that. But I still want to have some fun at Halloween, right? If I can't scar children this year, maybe I'll give away some free spooky books instead.

(Not to the neighbourhood kids. My books would probably scar them, too.)

Thanks to the Devilish Duncan Twins at Wittegen Press and Grim Patricia Lynne, I've signed up for both the Share-a-Scare Blog Hop and the Trick or Treat Reads Blog Hop. Fortunately both are basically the same deal and pretty straightforward: On Halloween, you hand out free (preferably spooky) books and stories to anyone who comes knocking on your door/blog!

Make sure to come back this weekend (Samhain technically runs until sunset on November 1, so let's keep the festivities going) when I'll be giving away FREE copies of an appropriately-spooky story.

Plus, if you're interested in other places to grab free books, the full list of participating blogs is below. Feel free to sign up yourself, if you have something you want to share:

Also of note, as you may have noticed from the title today is my ONE HUNDREDTH blog post here at Stories I Found in the Closet. I thought this was some kind of momentous occasion, and actually failed to write a post last week because I spent too much time thinking about what I should do for this special event. This week I just said f*ck it and got on with business.

Life is too busy. I wrote 100 blog posts. Yeah me.  Now let's get on to the important stuff!

Just 114 hours until Halloween...
