I almost missed IWSG day again, but I have a good excuse! On Monday night I was cutting some plastic and accidentally sliced my hand with a box cutter. It wasn't a big cut, but it was fairly deep and right in the middle of my palm, so I figured I would need stitches. I went to the Emergency Room, and then proceeded to spend the next SIXTEEN HOURS waiting around the hospital. For TWO STITCHES.
Universal healthcare in Canada is great, but there are levels of our government that has been purposefully underfunding it for years, hoping to make the public more amenable when they try to roll-out private health care. Health care shouldn't be a political topic.
Anyway, didn't get a lot of writing done over the holidays, but revisions on Gale Harbour 3 are coming along. I hope to announce a release date very soon.
This post is not going to be very long because my hand hurts and it's hard to type. :-) Just let me say Happy New Year, and I hope you haven't failed at your resolutions yet. Also, I do not recommend cutting your palm with a box cutter. 0/10.
Seriously, why is it in movies, when someone needs blood for something, they always cut their palm? That's literally the worst place to cut yourself!
Hugs & kisses,

Knuckles are another bad spot (from falling off my bicycle in grade school and getting some serious scars!). Blood oaths. Not a fan. How about an elbow bump. Hope you heal fast and clean without scars (unless you're into that sort of thing!).
I hope your hand heals quickly. It's exciting that you hope to have a release date for your next book soon.
Ouch! I've cut my fingers with a hedge trimmer before. Don't recommend that either. And sixteen hours? I would've gone home and stuck some butterfly bandages on it and then seen my regular doctor first thing the next morning.
Heal well! And yeah, cutting the hand pretty much anywhere is a big nope. Happy New Year!
OUCH. And man, that's a heck of a wait time. I think we use a lot of superglue in our family. We've superglued my daughter's eyebrow together, my son's head after he ran into the corner of a brick wall, and my husband's hand after he put a knife through it. Yeah, we might be a bit cheap when it comes to healthcare...
You just reminded my 2024 Jan when I was taken into the emergency room of the govt hospital straight from my school. Next thing I know, I had a stich on my scalp. The worst part of these injuries is when it replays in your mind😬 Take care and hopefully the hand heals quickly. Life's hard enough with a paper cut so I can imagine a deeper cut:)
Another bad spot on your hand is in between the fingers.
You're the second person I've seen lately talk about the insane wait times in Canada. That sucks they are trying to privatize it because, as you know, that's working just staller here in the US. /s I'm not really sure what the solution to healthcare is because for profit always put money over patients and there's little reason to trust the government to do a good job either. I'll stop ranting now. LOL Happy New Year.
I hope your hand heals clean and soon. I thought blood oaths were cutting the thumb. Anyway, one of my Canadian cousins who lives in Toronto, had a stroke over the holidays and her experience was all good. The care was speedy and right on time so that she is now well on the road to recovery. I guess maybe they do triage and see those who are the worst off first. And the cost was minimal. Under $100 for all of it I think.
Whew, glad you're on the mend! And yes, I agree, health care shouldn't be political; I love medicare, when it works, but it's so frustrating that so many want to undermine it!
Many of us down here look with envy on Canadian's health care system... Glad you're on the mend.
Sometimes the small injuries hurt the worst. Keep that wound clean. I'm a retired paramedic in Alberta. I can remember the days/nights when we'd roll our ambulance into the emergency overhead doors, charge through the man doors with a patient on a gurney up to the triage nurse. Without hesitation, she'd assign a room for our patient. We'd wait maybe a couple of minutes to speak to a nurse, sometimes the doctor as well to give a report. Then clean up the back of the ambulance and go get the next victim, er, patient. Those good days are behind us now. Blessings :)
My character Derek makes it a point to tell another character "don't cut your palm!" when doing the magic stuff. Because, yeah...
Sorry you ended up spending more than half a day waiting for two stitches. That really sucks. I hope the pain abates quickly.
