Still Blogging (#IWSG April 2024)

Busy, busy, busy... It's the craziest week of the year at my day job, so I have to keep this short. Which is too bad, since I actually had a story cooking about the monthly question.

Writing and revision have been slow due to how busy it's been at work, but it is plodding along slowly. Hopefully when I'm over that hump I can jump back into it and finally put Gale Harbour 3 to bed (or at least off to the editor).

April Question - How long have you been blogging?

My first blogging experience wasn't with this blog, but with a tabletop gaming blog called RuleoftheDice.com. I wrote about role-playing games and tried way too hard to be edgy - some of the early posts are particularly cringy.

I won't go into too much detail, but suffice to say I do miss the community. The RPG community at the time was very vibrant, and despite the arguments between "Old school" and modern games, there were a lot of great conversations to be had. A lot of it took place on the now-defunct Google+ social media platform, which I also kinda miss because I never found those same groups again. I mean there are also gaming groups on Facebook but OH MY GOD those people are obnoxious.

How about you? Anyone else lament to the changes to blogging and social media over the years?

Hugs & Kisses,
-CDGK

The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Writers post their thoughts on their blogs, talking about their doubts and the fears they have conquered. It's a chance for writers to commiserate and offer a word of encouragement to each other. Check out the group at http://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/

I read your post last time and wanted to post and then …work, business and illness got in the way so now I am here. I have been blogging since 2009. It used to be easy to put thing 8n my blog and YouTube videos would play before I posted so I could choose more easily. I still love my blog. You keep blogging even if it’s just monthly. I like reading it.

I've been blogging various places since 2010. I follow a couple of blogs that talk about RPG stuff even though I'm not interested in that; I mostly follow for when they talk about other stuff. Point being you could still talk about that stuff if you want, just don't make it cringey.

I follow a couple RPG blogs, but rarely comment. I do actively follow someone who tabletop games and it's really interesting.
Now I get all the posts here with your painted figures!

Work has been crazy this week for me too! I do hope that slows down and lets you get back to writing.

I know what you mean about Facebook groups. It's why I rarely interact. Things sometimes get volatile. At least IWSG is still around, so that's nice.

It's hard to squeeze in writing when you're busy at work. I have those days too. And yes, I'm sad that blogging isn't nearly as popular as it was when I started blogging in 2011.

Hi, CD. My brother is the one in our family who's crazy about games online. Probably before you were born I was a Dungeons and Dragons master. We played in each others' homes and created the stories and adventures. I've still got my little D&D tokens that we'd place on the maps we drew. But life intervened and our group spread around the country and died off. It was a lot of fun. I hope things ease at work for you soon!

I miss some of the blog hops that used to happen. They were fun and I miss the little communities that popped up around them.

My past blog had Google+ and it was useful in getting followers to your site without being in a formal group/hop.

I enjoyed reading your blog and hope you do continue. It was fun to compare those early posts to what we write now. Your comment about 'cringing' made me smile. I've been blogging since 2005 and consider it a very good month IF I'm able to post every Weds. Being retired should (?) mean I have time, right? Not really. I'd deep in rough draft mode of a mystery, but blogging for IWSG keeps me focused on what other writers are doing, tips for writing/drafting/publishing more effectively, and perhaps most important, on being a part of a writing community. Thank you!
